American Idol Top Ten Guys

I didn’t liveblog (or indeed blog at all) the results show last week–Thursday night is dinner-and-margarita-night. ;) I didn’t do very well predicting the guys who got kicked off, but I wasn’t particularly surprised either. The girls who left were both in my bottom four. Didn’t turn out too well for either of our last two entrants into the top twenty-four; both Colton and JoAnne were voted off. Sort of a shame, especially for JoAnne–she can do much better than she did. But I like most of the ones who stayed, so I’m cool.

I am with you except for Jason Castro-I don’t get him. Yuck-long dreds, cluelessness or whatever…nope-don’t like him.

Kind of funny that Simon said he likes the contestants to get back in his face and then gets all miffed and annoyed when they do-like David Cook saying that he has to convince the viewers, not him and Simon wigged out!!

So how did your papers come out? Did you replace your id’s and such yet? (your dad told me Sunday morning about the cart incident)

  3. I’m not a fan of the dreads, either, Debbie. I just like that he goes up there and sings and seems to be much more interested in the music than in the judges. Too many people make it performative in the wrong sense, in the sense that they try to do what they think the judges want rather than what they should do as artists. To be fair, the American Idol judges don’t help a whole lot, because their advice is not particularly lucid or consistent most of the time.

Yeah, Simon contradicts himself a lot. But David’s comment bothered me, too–it’s such a cop out to say that it doesn’t matter what the judges think. In a way it’s true, but if the judges were doing their job (which I’m not sure they are), then their advice should not go straight in one ear and out the other. Heh, I just sort of contradicted myself. It’s coming off Australian Idol, which has better, more helpful judges as well as more solid artists.

Well, the papers are all in; haven’t got them back yet. I’m just glad their finished. Still in the process of getting everything replaced; debit card arrived FedEx this morning (yay!), school ID was easy to replace. Driver’s license is going to be the pain, and I sent the stuff off for that today. Fingers crossed it all goes through okay. Still can’t believe I was stupid enough to lose it. Grr.

I appreciate your views on Jason. That makes sense to me. He does stand out as different and his comment that there was a lot more ‘not music’ stuff to do is telling. John made the comment that if he didn’t have the dreads that he would just look like a big goof;) So I guess his hair is helping him…

I also agree with your comment about the judges’ comments not being that helpful (same as last year). I personally like finding out that David Cook is a word nerd because I am. Obviously Simon is not-anyway being a word nerd is better than being freaked out about your food touching on your plate!!
