This promo played at ComiCon this year…the audio’s a little iffy, but it does a great job of getting across the writing style of the show. Or, at least, half of the writing style. It’s hard to get across the more emotional, tender side of the show in a short promo like this. But the sarcasm is here in spades. “Nobody likes a blonde in a hamster ball.” Kristen Bell is so great. Note: All the clips are from Season 2, but there aren’t really any big spoilers.

Jandy, you know, Veronica Mars like Gilmore Girls are very clever HOWEVER the just talk waaaay too fast–it is almost impossible to keep up with the banter for this hearing impaired middle-ager. Denise

Have you watched the show? This clip is extremely fast, and low-quality audio to boot, which doesn’t make it any easier to keep up! Gilmore Girls is awesome, too. I’m so excited that GG and VM are going to run back to back this year!

So, I watched VM for the first time when the season started. I did not believe you that I would like it… I gotta say, I was wrong! I still like Gilmore Girls better, but may I just argue that the whole charm of these shows (for me) is in fact the speed at which the witty banter moves. Justin says they talk way too fast too. I say, you just listen too slow.

Oh, come on, Holly. You think I don’t know what you like? :p But seriously, I am glad you liked it. Have you watched all of the three episodes this year? I haven’t watched this week’s yet, but I thought the second one was a lot better than the premiere. It’s really very similar to Gilmore Girls as far as the writing style goes, so if you like GG, I’m not a bit surprised you liked VM.
Hee, re Justin listening too slow. Have you ever watched Sports Night? Awesome, awesome sitcom, tragically cancelled in the middle of the third season (this was in the late ’90s). Written by Aaron Sorkin, of The West Wing, and Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip this year. The dialogue in that goes by so fast I’m usually laughing at jokes that happened, like, five minutes earlier.

I guess I just thought the plot line sounded a bit juvenille (it reminds me of Nancy Drew mystery books). But that might actually be part of what draws me. I think it might in fact be juvenille if it weren’t for the skilled writing/witty banter–but you don’t know that until you watch it.
I have watched all of the episodes this season, actually. I am one of those boring types that puts the kids to bed at 8, watches t.v. for awhile and goes to bed. So I pretty much know what is good on t.v. from 8 to 10 every night of the week (tragically, pathetically). I thought the season premere had alot of work to do setting up the season (like the first Star Wars movie) so the plot had to be a bit lighter in order to leave room.
